Charms and delights of festive Europe
Scenic Club Member Stories
Enjoying the holiday season with Scenic is an invitation to experience authentic festive wonder, far beyond the everyday. Whether it’s sharing the joy of Europe’s centuries-old Christmas markets or waking to a snow-dusted wonderland in the Canadian Rockies, guests can immerse themselves in a world of celebration, cultural tradition, and warm hospitality alongside loved ones and fellow travellers.
In this article, Scenic Platinum members Graham and Elizabeth Wilson, who enjoyed the Christmas in the Rockies land journey in 2024, and Scenic Diamond members Annette and Phillip Brown , who experienced the enchantment of the Rhine, Main, and Danube Christmas Markets river cruise that same year, both recount memories that linger long after the decorations are packed away.
For seasoned cruisers Annette and Phillip Brown, the Christmas Markets departure was the ideal festive escape. Having travelled with Scenic many times before, they jumped at the opportunity to share this experience with their son. “When he booked and was able to secure a single supplement deal, we thought - why not? Sharing the cruise with him was very special,” says Annette.
The Browns were captivated by how Europe transforms during the festive season. “It was amazing to see the magic of the towns and cities coming to life with all the festive lights and the light dustings of snow. We experienced previously visited places in a whole new way.” Annette recalled. “Budapest at night is always spectacular, the cathedral and street decorations in Vienna were beautiful, but Rothenburg, Rubinstein, Cologne and Dürnstein are always favourite places to visit and more so with all their Christmas lights.”
In 2024, Graham and Elizabeth Wilson decided to tick a “White Christmas” off their travel wish list. “We wanted to have a snowy Christmas, and having previously done the Europe river cruise, we decided Canada was next”, Graham said.
Spending Christmas Day at the iconic Fairmont Banff Springs Hotel was a highlight. “A beautiful dining hall, snow outside, good company and more great food than you can imagine - delightfully far from the 35-degree temperature at home!" recalls Elizabeth.
The journey also delivered breathtaking moments immersed in Canada’s striking scenery. “The ice walk was amazing. To walk out onto the lake and look at the ice formations on the lakebed with the crack designs clearly visible and the snow-covered mountains around us, was exhilarating”.
A hallmark of Scenic journeys is the Nth Degree service. “Both the tour guide and the driver made us feel at home throughout the trip and went that little extra distance to make it a thoroughly enjoyable experience,” Elizabeth said. “If you want Christmas in the snow, this Canada journey is the tour for you. So much to do in the wonderful places you stop in.”
“We have travelled many times on the Scenic river ships and absolutely love the experience. As always, the crew makes every cruise special,” says Annette. “Just be prepared for the crowds and pack your winter coats, hats and gloves.”
Now is the time to plan and book your festive 2026 or 2027 journey. With Scenic, every detail will be seamlessly taken care of, allowing you to focus on cherished moments and creating lifelong memories.
