SCENIC ECLIPSE UPDATE


Scenic Luxury Cruises & Tours has announced that the first sailing date for Scenic Eclipse, the World’s First Discovery Yacht, is being amended to 15 August 2019.

“We are deeply sorry for the inconvenience these delays to the launch of Scenic Eclipse have caused our guests. As a company we have done everything possible to complete the ship within the time limits that were set previously, but a series of events that are outside our control have put us in a position where we must delay,” stated a company spokesperson.

As reported in the media the ongoing financial challenges faced by the Uljanik Shipyard, where Scenic Eclipse is being built, have caused a range of ongoing impacts. Shipyard workers have not been paid full salaries since August 2018, which has led to strikes and manpower shortages as well as several other shipyard disruptions, resulting in months of lost production. To keep the build moving as quickly as possible in these challenging circumstances Scenic has expanded the team within the shipyard by employing Cruise Ship specialists from Finland, Italy, the UK and Norway. The expanded Scenic team took over the lead role in completing the ship with in excess of 115 directly-employed specialists in cooperation with the shipyard’s remaining management team and more than 500 subcontractors.

In a very positive development for the Scenic Eclipse build and the Uljanik Group, a consortium comprised of the Croatian DIV group and Italian Shipyard Fincantieri was confirmed on 7 February as the new owner of Uljanik. Accordingly, Scenic is confident that these new owners will bring stability and focus to current and future ship builds.

Accordingly, the Scenic Group has signed a letter of intent with the new consortium that will lead the shipyard to set up a new Discovery Yacht division within the restructured Uljanik group. This new joint venture will be fully focused on completing Scenic Eclipse and on expediting the build of the second Scenic Eclipse, as well as progressing development of the next generations of Scenic’s Discovery Yachts.

As Scenic’s guests will experience, the overall quality and sophistication of the vessels is second to none. The challenge has been the constant interruptions to the build process, late deliveries of equipment and other crucial supplies which has made it extremely difficult to keep any normal shipbuilding schedule, causing the launch to be pushed back.

Scenic has committed to providing guests a full refund for the cost of their Scenic Eclipse cruise and consideration of any other reasonable associated costs incurred with their travel plans. In addition, Scenic will provide all guests who rebook a Scenic Eclipse voyage a future cruise credit to the value of 25% of the cost of their rebooked cruise.

Scenic has established a dedicated phone number for guests and has begun reaching out to all guests and travel agents to provide details on the process of refunding and offering an opportunity to apply the 25% discount to other voyages.

How do we contact you in regards to our sailing?

We have set up a dedicated phone number and email address so that guests can contact us directly. Our phone number is 1300 569 258 and email address is eclipse.guest@scenic.com.au. Our contact centre is opened from 8am to 6pm M-F and 9am-1pm Saturday. At times of high call volumes you will have the option of requesting us to call you back, or please use email.

How do I apply for my refund?

 
A.

For bookings through your travel agent, we will email your agent with a request form for the bank account for refunds. For guests with bookings directly with us, we will call and email you with a request for the appropriate bank account details. Once we receive the instructions from you we anticipate to have the funds deposited into the account within 3 business days.

Q.

What does third party costs mean?

 
A.

We will assess any third party costs that you have incurred due to the cancellation of your Scenic Eclipse voyage. These may be airline change fees for changing or cancelling your booked flights, pre-booked accommodation cancellation fees or other touring that you had already secured and will now not undertake. Third party costs will not include the costs for new bookings that you may subsequently make.

Will you cover my travel insurance policy costs?

 
A.

Unused Travel Insurance policies may be able to be refunded by your provider, if there is a policy cancellation fee we will also provide reimbursement for that fee. We are unfortunately unable to provide any refund for insurance that was provided as a supplementary service such as a policy provide you’re your credit card company.

What products does the future cruise discount apply to?

 
A.

The future cruise discount is available to be used on any new Scenic Eclipse voyage, sailing until 31 December 2021 or any Scenic European or Asian River Cruise departing prior to 31 December 2021. To assist you with considering the use of your discount it is best that we discuss the options with your or your travel agent.

When do I need to use my discount by?

 
A.

Guests will be asked to make their new booking by 30 November 2019 to be eligible for the discounts on offer.
