The First Antarctica Cruise of 2015

An update from one of our Cruise Directors, Sally Austin & Rikus Visscher -

"66.5 south and in front of us is heavy pack ice, an unbelievable sight. We crossed the Antarctic Circle at 4am and this morning has been out on zodiacs skirting around and through the ice. Wow! One of the most amazing things I have ever done. It is just so white and beautiful. They took out 11 zodiacs per group and we had a Naturalist/guide on board to tell us all about ice, wildlife etc. Up close and personal with crab catcher seals that are just sleeping on the flat ice. It was stunning."

"We were out and about for about an hour."

"Then the zodiac came back one by one stopping at a large flat ice shelf where the ship staff had set up a bar and served us a glass of champagne while on the zodiac! Table with white table cloth and the barmen dressed in their uniforms. The large ice bucket, bottles of champagne and served in real glass."

"Seeing the ship sitting in the ice is unreal. I don’t know how they are going to beat this excursion."

"Many of the staff onboard have not been this far south either, so it’s great to see them getting on the zodiacs too. It’s all because we made such good time across the Drake Passage that we could afford the time to come this far south."

"Last night we had two Cocktail parties. The Emerald/Diamond/Platinum guests at 5.30pm to 6.30pm followed by the larger one for all guests from 6.30 to 730pm."
