Eat your heart out in Lake Louise

Lake Louise is globally recognized for the view and for the Fairmont Chateau, perched magnificently on the lake’s edge. But the surprise revelation that struck me during our stay here recently was the incredible dining options within the Chateau itself. I’m not usually one to focus on the food during a trip away, but this was so exceptional, it quickly became my focal point! And let’s face it, there’s nothing more extraordinary than combining one of the most breathtaking views on the planet with a mouthwatering meal you’ll never forget.

First mention goes to Walliser Stubé, the Swisse inspired fondue restaurant that is in a class of its own. This is a very elegant dining experience and one that you simply should not miss during your stay.

I highly recommend the Chateau Briand, using locally sourced Alberta Beef.

Next stop is your family friendly, more relaxed but still of exceptional standard dining option. This is a great one for a small group of friends you’ve made during your Scenic tour of Canada. Poppy Brasserie, and as the name suggests, it is French Style, again with a strong emphasis on locally sourced produce. You simply cannot go past the Bouef Bourgignon when you pull up a chair here!

My third recommendation is for a lunch or dinner at Lago – the Italian restaurant… and Lago, in case you’re wondering, is Italian for Lake! So appropriate, since each of these three amazing dining options proudly boasts views of Lake Louise! Lago’s Head Chef is in fact Australian, hailing from the equally beautiful Dorrigo Mountains on NSW’s mid north coast. He must be infusing the fresh Albertan ingredients with a dash of home-cooking love because the cuisine here is certainly something to behold.

Now all I have to do is get out on that Lake to work off enough energy so I can continue dining at Lake Louise without the guilt! Bon appetite!
