The Magnificent Fairmont Experience

I knew the standard of accommodation in Canada was going to be exceptional, but the experience I left with, was beyond my wildest expectations. It’s only when you travel with Scenic that you can stay at the exclusive combination of Canada’s finest Fairmont Resorts and Hotels. And if you have never stayed at a Fairmont then you may be wondering why all the fuss.

Let’s start at the Fairmont Jasper Park Lodge, our first stop on our tour through the Canadian Rockies. It lies in the heart of the Jasper National Park and the silence is spectacular, despite the large expanse of the Resort. You’’ll feel immersed in the Rockies’ “timber lodge” vibe, nestled subtly in and around Lac Beauvert (yes, it certainly is a beautiful green lake!). The main lodge has every luxury, dining option, drinks lounge, viewing deck and charismatic staff member you could imagine. We didn’t want to leave.

But then again, our next stop didn’t disappoint either! The Fairmont Chateau Lake Louise is everything the postcards promise it will be… and more. The impact of seeing Lake Louise itself is breathtaking. It’s as if the Fairy Godmother herself has waved some kind of magic wand and whipped up the world’s most exquisite view. And then there’s the Chateau itself. It’s more of a palace really. When you travel with Scenic, you’re guaranteed a Lake View Room here. Which, let me tell you, is very, very special indeed. Whether it be summer of winter, the lake is alive with explorers of every kind. Ice skaters, canoeists, wildlife trekkers, bird watchers, sled riders. It’s a sight to behold. My personal favourite feature of this Chateau is the resident dog Marcus, who, if you request, is available to be taken for walks, which especially welcome if you’re missing your furry friends at home.

On to the Banff Springs Resort and Spa, which is most widely known for it’s hot thermal pools and luxurious treatments. The Scottish Castle inspired design of the hotel is breathtaking against the backdrop of the snowy peaks and the Bow River below… not to mention the world class Banff Springs Golf Course. You don’t need to be a professional golfer to see why!

And my final stay, none other than the Fairmont Empress in Victoria, British Columbia. What a majestic experience this was! Overlooking the prime position on Victoria’s glistening Harbour, it would be impossible to stay at The Empress and not experience the beautiful tradition of Afternoon Tea, a step back in time to the days of royalty and dignitaries (literally, The Queen Mother, Queen Elizabeth, John Wayne, Harrison Ford, Pamela Anderson… although not all at the same time!).

But despite the razzle, the comforts and luxuries, the backdrops and the incredible history of all of these Hotels and Resorts, the one thing, for me that really made our stay at the Fairmonts throughout Canada was the way you were made to feel like family. And when you’re on the other side of the world, that’s worth everything.
