5 Years of Scenic & Getaway


Scenic is kicking off its fifth season as principal sponsor of the Nine Network’s popular travel program Getaway this Saturday (13 February), with a recap of the incredible sights David Reyne and the Getaway team experienced last year on a luxury Europe river cruise along the romantic Rhine and Moselle rivers.

The sponsorship, which began in 2012, has seen Scenic showcase four destinations per year through three dedicated half hour episodes per destination. There have been a total of 18 shoots to date, with the Getaway team travelling to every continent and over 30 countries with the luxury travel operator - from Antarctica and Russia to Zambia and Slovakia. The crew have spent almost a year filming the Scenic portfolio including 126 days of cruising, and they have travelled 340,000 kilometres, over eight times around the Earth.

Some highlights include Brett Lee and Jacinta Campbell’s trip to India in 2013 which was the cricket star’s first visit to India’s iconic Taj Mahal despite numerous cricket tours to the country and also the first time dual hosts were used; this has since been repeated with Kathy Lette and David Reyne’s recent trip to the UK and Ireland. And also Shane Crawford’s 2014 visit to South America where he cruised the Galápagos Islands, Amazon and Antarctica – an incredible four week shoot and the longest to date.
