What’s new for 2017 across our Europe River Cruises?

From culinary lectures to a range of cycling tours across Europe, our Journey Designers have outdone themselves in the development of our new Europe River Cruising itineraries for 2017. Here are just some of the new highlights you’ll come across in the cities and locations we visit.

In Cologne, settle in for an informative culinary lecture on board your luxury Space-Ship exploring the delicacies of the region, or in Nuremberg venture on shore and learn how to make authentic German gingerbread in a cooking class.

In the Netherlands, guests will have the chance to visit the fascinating Open Air Museum. This museum explores the history of people in the Netherlands to provide an insight into the culture, traditions and stories of this unique country.

In Heidelberg, the Sweet Tastes of Heidelberg tour offers up a chance to indulge your sweet tooth and the Black Forest provides a tantalising insight into the Black Forest region. The Black Forest Open Air Museum carries out research projects and explores the cultural heritage and development of all rural areas in the Black Forest region. In addition, the museum collects and preserves important cultural assets from the region. For those that are more active there is also a guided cycling tour through the beautiful Black Forest.

Another wonderful new experience in Europe is the introduction of a cycling tour to the Hoge Veluwe National Park. This Dutch national park is situated in the province of Gelderland near the cities of Ede, Wageningen, Arnhem and Apeldoorn. Consisting of heathlands, sand dunes, and woodland,it is situated in the Veluwe. Most of the landscape of the park and the Veluwe was created during the last Ice Age. The park forms one of the largest continuous nature reserves in the Netherlands.

In Bucharest there are visits to the Parliament House and Open Air Village Museum and in the Slovakian capital of Bratislava, there are three new Scenic Freechoice’s including a guided tour of the city, exploring the many hidden gems found around the city. Alternatively, guests can discover Bratislava’s communist-era history with an expert guide. The third new excursion is a journey to the nearby Devin Castle, where you’ll have an opportunity to tour the castle’s ruins and sample some of the local speciality, the Devin’s delicious currant wine.

If you choose to add on our Swiss extension tour, you’ll be able to explore the wonderful Charlie Chaplin Museum in Vevey. One of the most beloved, movie actors of all time, the comedian was born in London, and spent most of his career in Hollywood, he was pushed out of America in the 1950s, accused of communist sympathies during the height of McCarthyism. He spent the last 25 years of his life with his wife and children on a sprawling Swiss estate.

Chaplin’s World is located in the village of Corsier-sur-Vevey on Chaplin’s former estate.  The museum has three parts: the home where Chaplin spent his final years (the manoir), a re-created film studio featuring iconic props (including the Tramp’s hat and cane) and replicas of famous sets, and the park surrounding Chaplin’s home.

We also have a new Enrich experience, a panoramic train journey from Montreaux to Château-d'Œx, where you’ll learn all about Switzerland’s famous cheese making practices and even get to sample some of the freshly made cheese.

In addition to these new and exciting activities, we are also bringing back a lot of the events and activities our guests have told us they loved from previous trips. Palais Liechtenstein is still one of our favourite places to take our guests and the new ‘The Best of Sound of Music and Salzburg Show’ has been getting rave reviews.

From city tours to once-in-a-lifetime events, every one of our Europe River Cruises will offer breathtaking and unforgettable moments.
