Getaway discovers Russia with Scenic


Tune in to Getaway over the next three weeks to witness Catriona Rowntree’s luxury Scenic river cruise along the Volga and Svir rivers on board Scenic Tsar from Moscow to St. Petersburg, exploring Russia’s unique towns and cities.

The Nine Network will be screening three full half hour episodes on Saturday 8, 15 and 22 October.

Starting in Russia’s most populous city Moscow, and its social and political centre - Red Square, here Catriona discovers the 450 year old Saint Basel’s cathedral and the Kremlin.

Followed by a ride on the Moscow Metro to experience the capital’s heritage-listed subway stations plus an exclusive Scenic Enrich experience at the Memorial Museum of Cosmonautics, where she met real life cosmonauts.

Next stop along the Volga is one of Russia’s oldest cities, Uglich and a small local choir performance in one of the churches.

The following episode sees Catriona continue along the Volga River where she experiences true Russian life in one of their oldest cities Yaroslavl, home to some of its most fascinating architecture including the Xavier Transfiguration Cathedral, and the small port town of Goritsy, which is famous for its monastery.

Next onto Khizi Island - an open air museum of architecture showcasing Russia’s most famous wooden landmark, the Church of Transfiguration, and finally the charming village of Mandrogi.

The last instalment takes places in Russia’s second largest city St. Petersburg where Catriona explores the city’s waterways by boat before a vodka and caviar tasting at the Caviar Bar at the Belmond Grand Hotel with the world’s only professional vodka sommelier.

After shopping on the longest street in the world, Catriona discovers the extravagance of Catherine’s Palace followed by a Scenic Enrich experience - a private Russian ballet performance.
