Zurich City Guide

Zurich is Switzerland’s largest city and home to a host of treasures.

Find out about some of the best places to eat, stay, shop and play in this vibrant city.

Hotel Schweizerhof has a great location opposite the train station at the start of Bahnhofstrasse, Zurich’s famous shopping drag.

Most sights and the lake are a stroll away, and excellent tram links run outside. Elegant rooms offer first-class comfort and style, and the buffet breakfast will set you up for a day’s sightseeing.

Traditional and fusion food is easy to find in this well-fed banking city. Kronenhalle serves hearty Swiss dishes such as veal in cream sauce with rösti.

Hotspot Restaurant Razzia also has classic Swiss dishes in a fabulous 1920s cinema building. Try gorgeous old-town Café Schober for afternoon tea.

Luxurious jewellery and fashion shops and mid-range department stores line Bahnhofstrasse.

Newly trendy Zurich West has art galleries, home ware and interesting Swiss fashion labels such as bag-maker Freitag. Good Zurich buys include Bally shoes, lace, watches and upmarket Sprüngli chocolates.

Wander through Zurich’s austere but beautiful old town, with its guildhalls, churches and fountain-splashed squares.

Promenades and cafés line the Limmat River that divides old Zurich and leads to a flower-flanked lakeshore with mountain views. The wealthy city has dozens of good museums, including them Landesmuseum history and Kunsthaus art.
