Moroccan Flavour

Discover a treasure trove of cultural, gastronomical and visual wonder through one of the world’s most vibrant destinations.

Aromas of spice floating through the air, colourful cloth swirling in the markets, an intoxicating hum of vibrant life. Discover the exotic wonder of Morocco on our 9 day cruise from Santa Cruz de Tenerife to Barcelona aboard Scenic Eclipse.

On this thrilling Moroccan adventure, our luxury Discovery Yacht will visit Casablanca, Morocco’s largest city and chief port. Soak in Casablanca’s rich and varied legacy—this white-washed city has served as a Phoenician port, pirate haven, French colony and many other purposes since its settlement by the Berbers in the 7th century BC. Here, guests will get the chance to discover the captivating Hassan II Mosque.

With strong Moorish influences and perched on a platform high above the Atlantic Ocean, over 6,000 Moroccan master craftsmen and artisans were employed to work with local materials to create the intricate decorations that embellish the entire structure. Considered the heart of the Casablanca’s past, the medina is filled with a number of colourful shops and the heady perfume of a mix of spices.

Passing through the Marrakech gate into this humming centre is like taking a step back in time; many of the stalls have remained relatively unchanged in the past 150 years.

There’s no shortage of sensory delight in the medina; from children playing games in the street, to the waft of fresh-cooked food, there are endless wonders to be had here.

There are no accurate maps of the Medina, but those with a sense of adventure will enjoy winding their way along to the old Portuguese fortress that backs onto the old city. Tucked away next to this is the oldest mosque in the medina, a fascinating structure with impeccable detail.

Cinema fans will enjoy the chance to imagine themselves into the story of the famous movie Casablanca. Though not actually filmed in Casablanca, the eponymous 1942 film reflects the city’s colonial status at that time.

The final stop in this exotic wonder of a country is Morocco’s capital, Rabat. Ranked second in CNN’s ‘Top Travel Destinations of 2013,’ this city is a mecca of dramatic beauty and hidden wonder. There is no shortage of things to be done in this one of only four Imperial cities of Morocco.

A World Heritage-listed Site, the Medina of Rabat is an intricate maze of sensory delight. Colour, smell and sound unite as travellers meander through its winding passageways, getting a taste for daily street vendor life. Bask in modern art at the Musee Mohamed VI d’Art Moderne et Contemporain. Other main attractions include the Hassan Tower, the Chellah Necroplis and the Kasbah of the Udayas.
