Scenic Eclipse Countdown

The countdown is on until Scenic Eclipse – the World’s First Discovery Yachts – makes her world debut in Athens on 31 August 2018.

Scenic Founder and Managing Director Glen Moroney said interest in the ship’s inaugural season had been high with strong early sales ensuring the inaugural sailing from Athens to Venice, as well as several subsequent departures, had sold out.

"The level of excitement and anticipation we are getting from our booked guests tells us we have hit the nail right on the head. The market for true luxury in both small ships and expedition itineraries is heating up and we are proud to be able to put forth a ship we believe will exceed expectations,” Mr Moroney said.

Scenic Eclipse is currently under construction at Uljanik Shipyard JSC in Pula, Croatia. Progress since the keel-laying ceremony on April 28 has continued on schedule, with the ship’s bow thrusters, which provide more manoeuvrability when docking, installed earlier this month.

Meanwhile, in May Scenic was also granted membership to the International Association of Antarctica Tour Operators (IAATO) and Association of Arctic Expedition Cruise Operators (AECO).

With several Antarctic and Arctic itineraries planned for her inaugural season, Scenic Eclipse is being built to comply with new International Maritime Organisation (IMO) Polar Code requirements, as well as to the highest international safety standards. Utilising state-of-the-art technology and a host of safety features, including innovative zero-speed stabiliser fins that are than 50 per cent larger for even greater stability, the ship has a rating of Ice Class 1A (Polar Class 6), the highest of any luxury vessel, which will ensure the safest navigation through Arctic and Antarctic waters.

The ship will also feature special “Safe Return to Port” capabilities, guaranteeing essential systems remain operational in the unlikely case of an incident – the only ship operating in the Polar Regions to include this technology.

The 6-star ship, carrying a maximum of just 228 guests, will offer guests a level of luxury, discovery, safety and world-class innovation never before bundled into a ship of this size.

As well as cruises to the far-flung reaches of Antarctica and the Arctic Circle, Scenic Eclipse will offer a series of Mediterranean sojourns, as well as cruises to South America and a series of rediscovery cruises ranging in length from five to 15 days.

With flight packages, pre and post land extensions and insurance options now open for Scenic Eclipse’s inaugural season, demand is expected to increase further over the coming months.
