A sublime journey through the South of France

Cheryl and her husband travelled to the South of France as winners of the Traveller, Good Food and Scenic competition.
“It was a very, very special experience and Andrew (my husband) and I both thoroughly enjoyed it.

The level of service we experienced on our Scenic cruise was extraordinary. The cruise director, Yvonne, was exceptional and quite a character. With her eternal positivity and bubbly personality, she is ideally suited to such a role.  The local tour guides were excellent, notably our very knowledgeable guide in Viviers and our guide in Arles, Emmanuel, who was also a singer and who treated us to a performance from Carmen in the Arles arena.

I learned how to make a superb dish with mussels at Scenic Culinaire, and Andrew and I took the e-bikes for a spin in the incredible Lyon botanical gardens…loved those e-bikes. The scenery was wonderful, we enjoyed (far too much) delicious food and wine, we learned a lot about French wine/appellations/terroir, toured to fascinating places and ticked some things off the ‘bucket list’.

I had always wanted to see the Pont du Gard and places associated with Vincent Van Gogh. How majestic is the Pont du Gard? Yvonne helped us to arrange a car on the last day of the tour so that we could fit in both Arles and the Saint-Paul de Mausole Monastery in Saint-Rémy (where Van Gogh was held for a year). Seeing the main Van Gogh sights was, for me, the absolute highlight.

I am extremely grateful to have had this opportunity and wish to say a very big thank you to everyone who made it possible.”
