Artic

A day in a life in the Arctic

It’s early as you step from your cosy Scenic Slumber Bed to your suite’s floor to ceiling window. Morning sunlight dances across rock walls that soar more than a kilometre above. Whether in the Norwegian fjords or those of East Greenland, your butler serves a coffee of your choice as you step out onto your private verandah to breathe in pure wilderness. If in the pack ice north of Svalbard, make your way to the Observation Deck where stunning Swarovski Telescopes help you spot a polar bear, or perhaps walrus resting on bobbing floes. In the Arctic, every day brings new wonder.

After a delicious breakfast, don your complimentary polar parka and proceed to the Mudroom where your insulated boots await. Join your group at the Marina entrance and board a Zodiac for your morning excursion.

With only 200 guests in polar regions, disembarkation goes smoothly and enables multiple landings each day.

Excitement builds as you pull away from Scenic Eclipse. Its size and unique design allows you to explore places that larger vessels can’t reach. What will it be today? It might be a Zodiac cruise beneath the limestone cliffs of Prince Leopold Island bird sanctuary on Canada’s Northwest Passage, where more than a quarter of a million seabirds nest, including thick billed murres, northern fulmars and black-legged kittiwakes.

Or land and carefully approach a walrus haulout in Spitsbergen, a Chukchi village in Siberia or thermal springs in Iceland.

No two excursions are alike. Your Discovery Leader and Naturalists are alert to changing opportunities – from beluga whales suddenly appearing like ghosts, to the ‘crack!’ of glacier fronts calving – and flexible enough to get you there. Monitoring weather, sea state and ice, your expert Discovery Team will safely guide you and share their insights into the region’s environment every step of the way. Given the range of on-board experts, from naturalists to geologists, ornithologists to historians, our Discovery Team can tailor each excursion to your interests.

By midday, return to the ultra-luxury of your Discovery Yacht. Lunch as you wish at one of several dining experiences, from the casual Azure Bar & Cafe to the Yacht Club’s grill, to contemporary fine dining. While you eat, rest and take in the sights, Scenic Eclipse repositions to a new location for another excursion, holding its place using its GPS Dynamic Positioning System, without dropping anchor onto sensitive seabeds.

Scenic Eclipse’s limited guest number means multiple landings a day, and soon it’s time to set off again.
From historic hunters’ huts and reindeer in Svalbard, to Kamchatka’s coastlines alive with sea lions, otters and brown bears, to song and dance by indigenous people across the Arctic, your Discovery Guides will interpret what unfolds before your eyes and ears.

Ignite the explorer within, joining an all-inclusive guided kayaking or paddleboard trip, in the waters where kayaks were invented, sharing protected waterways with narwhals, bearded seals and clouds of seabirds like puffins and whiskered auklets.

In Norway, Iceland, Greenland and Canada, book onto our next-level explorations that take you above, below and beyond the horizon. Our two, state-of-the-art, Airbus EC-130-T2 helicopters are designed for flightseeing^, giving you treasured views from the glory of Norway’s Lofoten Islands, to the Greenlandic ice cap – a perspective few have ever experienced.

Board Scenic Neptune, our customised submarine^, to reveal underwater wonders from mesmerising blue walls of grounded icebergs, to Arctic Ocean seabeds rarely ever explored. Always you’ll be accompanied by a Discovery Team member to interpret what you see.

Back on Scenic Eclipse, visit our expansive 550sqm Senses Spa for the pure indulgence of rejuvenating treatments, soak in our Vitality Spa or outdoor pool, or stretch tightening muscles in our gym, or POWER Yoga and Pilates studio. Join your Discovery Leader for an illustrated recap of the day and learn what is planned for the next.

After dinner, what better way to finish the day than with live music or a nightcap in one of our nine bars and lounges, as the Midnight Sun highlights wildflower patches in tundra meadows nearby.
