For those who struck it lucky, the saloons of nearby Skagway proved a popular way to ‘invest’ their fortunes back into the town. The first people to call the Chilkat Valley home were the Tlingit Indians, and the area is still rich with Tlingit culture and history today. The Glacier terrain that formed the Haines area has shaped the truly majestic scenery you see today.
