Try your hand at Sarubobo mascot-making at Hida-no-Sato and origami in Hiroshima. From the large neon-pulsing, modern cities of Tokyo and Osaka to the historic villages of Shirakawa-go, Takayama and Tondabayashi, you will see all aspects of Japanese culture and lifestyle during your journey.     • Day 1 - Tokyo
      Welcome reception

      This evening meet for your welcome reception and dinner at your hotel in Tokyo, your Special Stay for the next three nights.

    • Day 2 - Tokyo
      Asakusa old town, Sensoji Temple, Sundowner on dinner cruise

      Visit the Asakusa district, paying your respects at Sensoji, the city’s oldest Buddhist temple before enjoying a cruise on the Sumida River.


      Head to west Tokyo. Here visit the Imperial Shinto Meiji Shrine, before seeing Omotesando and Shibuya Cat streets. Alternatively, wander through picturesque Shinjuku-Gyoen Gardens before witnessing the Shinjuku entertainment district come alive at dusk.


      Take in the bright lights of Tokyo during your evening dinner cruise on Tokyo Bay on a yakatabune, an old fashioned houseboat.

    • Day 3 - Tokyo
      Enrich - Taiko Drums Experience, Freechoice Dining

      Start your day visiting the National Sumo Stadium and Museum in the Ryogoku District. Later, walk through the peaceful Hama-Rikyu Gardens located across from your hotel.


      Given by Taiko Masters, partake in an interactive, private group demonstration and lesson in playing the Taiko drums.

      This afternoon cross the famous Shibuya pedestrian crossing, the busiest in the world, and see the famous Hachiko dog statue.

      Choose from contemporary Asian at China Blue or with your Tour Director, culturally immerse yourself in the traditional Japanese evening bar scene serving Yakatori.

    • Day 4 - Tokyo > Hakone
      Enrich - Sushi making, Hakone Open Air Museum

      Wander through the Tsukiji Fish Market to see the mornings catch being distributed.


      Immerse yourself in Japanese cuisine with the help of a local chef, as you prepare your own sushi lunch.

      Venture into the countryside on your drive to Hakone and study the art works and sculptures at the Hakone Open Air Museum.

      Enjoy a Special Stay at your hotel overlooking Lake Ashinoko.

    • Day 5 - Hakone > Five Lakes
      Mt Fuji cable car and cruise on Lake Ashinoko

      Walk around the hot springs at the summit of the Owakudani geothermal area before admiring the stunning scenery during your cable car ride down to your Lake Ashinoko cruise with Mt Fuji as a backdrop. Later, discover the craftsmanship involved in creating kimonos at the Itchiku Kubota Art Museum. Soak in the views of Mt Fuji from your lovely hotel for an overnight stay.

    • Day 6 - Five Lakes > Takayama
      Daio Wasabi Farm, Hida Folk Village

      Cross beautiful countryside on your drive to Takayama, where you’ll learn how they make wasabi at the Daio Wasabi Farm en-route. Later, stop at the Hida Folk Village to partake in Sarubobo mascot-making before beginning a two night stay at your hotel with amazing views over Takayama.

    • Day 7 - Takayama
      Shirakawa-go, Freechoice Dining

      Discover the famous traditional farmhouses of nearby Shirakawa-go then gain unique insights into the region’s culture and history at the various museums and arts centres located in Takayama’s old quarter.

      Choose between Le Midi, a French/Italian-inspired bistro in town famed for its Hida Beef, or Sakanaya, a fine Japanese restaurant set in a renovated former sake brewery near your hotel.

      Miyagawa markets

      Wander the Miyagawa morning markets before travelling by Express train to Nagoya. Explore the rebuilt Nagoya Castle before enjoying an overnight special stay.

    • Day 9 - Nagoya > Kyoto
      Shinkansen train

      See the industrial robots perform around the Toyota factory (when available) and visit the museum before travelling by Shinkansen train to the culturally rich city of Kyoto, home to many World Heritage-listed Sites. Settle into your four night stay.

    • Day 10 - Kyoto
      Enrich - Tea Ceremony with lunch

      Begin with a visit to the Kinkaku-ji or Golden Pavilion before wandering through the classical Zen Garden at Ryoanji Temple.


      Partake in a Japanese tea ceremony whilst dressed in a traditional Japanese kimono, a great photo opportunity.

      Later marvel at the architecture of Nijo Castle, a classic reminder of the fascinating Edo-period shogunate’s power.

    • Day 11 - Kyoto
      Philosopher’s Walk, Enrich - Maiko (apprentice Geisha) dinner

      This morning, stroll along the Philosopher’s Walk, especially beautiful during blossom season, before letting yourself loose in the Nishiki Shijo Shopping District during your free afternoon.


      After strolling through the Gion District, tonight’s dinner will allow you to interact with a Maiko, an apprentice Geisha, who’ll host your meal presentation. It’s an excellent opportunity to learn about what is involved in becoming a Geisha and the art of Japanese hospitality.

    • Day 12 - Kyoto > Nara
      Nara Park, Sake Museum

      Enjoy an excursion to Nara, where you’ll visit Todaiji Temple and Nara Park. You’ll stop at the Fushimi Inari Shrine, featured in the movie Memoirs of a Geisha, before a sake tasting and visit to a sake museum.

      Ryokan Upgrade
      For a unique insight into Japanese culture, choose to spend tonight in a Ryokan. This traditional Japanese Inn, has tatami mat flooring with futon beds, sliding shoji paper doors, onsen hot spring baths and private facilities. Includes dinner and breakfast (additional cost)

    • Day 13 - Kyoto > Hiroshima
      Kyoto historic preservation districts

      Revel in the atmosphere of the ancient preservation districts in your own time, before boarding your Shinkansen train to Hiroshima. Tonight, sample Okonomiyaki, a delicious Japanese-style pancake, a specialty of the region. You’ll enjoy two restful nights.

    • Day 14 - Hiroshima > Miyajima Island
      Itsukushima Shrine Miyajima Island, Peace Park and Museum

      Sail by ferry to Miyajima Island to visit the Daisho-in Temple and the floating sixth century Torii Gate at the Itsukushima Shrine.


      Experience an emotional visit to the Peace Park and Museum before visiting Orizuru Tower to create your own special origami donation.

    • Day 15 - Hiroshima > Himeji > Osaka
      Himeji Castle

      Travel by Shinkansen to marvel at Himeji Castle, an original and Japan’s most spectacular castle before continuing to Osaka. Tonight begin a memorable two night Special Stay in Osaka.

      Tondabayashi, Asahi beer factory

      Located outside of Osaka is the timeless village of Tondabayashi Jinaimachi. Visit a traditional house and wander around this splendid historical time capsule, with houses and buildings that date back to the Edo period. Back in Osaka, marvel at sheer size of the city from Sky Garden before seeing how beer is made at the Asahi factory. Tonight relive your experiences at your farewell dinner.
